Advice & Learnings for First-Time Filmmakers

Advice & Learnings for First-Time Filmmakers

It’s been over a month since the release of my first DIY documentary (now available in Spanish and French subtitles on Vimeo). Making the film cost me the equivalent of one-year US college tuition. Ouch! But that’s close to nothing compared to any production you’ve seen on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime.

It was worth it. Documentary filmmaking is one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had. I finally understood the “high” filmmakers often talk about. While some others dream about their luxury weddings and enormous diamond rings, I dream about being able to create at this level, again and again.

I received much positive feedback since the release of our documentary, as well as some constructive criticism. I thought I’d take this opportunity and put together my first “Video Newsletter” and speak with you face-to-face. If you like this format better, please let me know and I’ll be sure to do more of it.

Thanks for your feedback, can’t wait to share the next part of the Feisworld journey with you!

Much love,

Fei

PPS: I recently interviewed a lovely new friend named Allison Martin. She’s a South African entrepreneur currently traveling/working in Boston, MA. Her company UDoTest reinvents the way we conduct many routine medical tests, and it’s saving many lives as we speak. Learn more
