How to Keep Using Wechat (Turn off App Automatic Update Before Sept 20)
This is an updated video to a previous version released earlier today, which contained an error.
To avoid WeChat from being updated automatically, you need to TURN OFF automatic app updates.
By just turning off app refresh will NOT do the job.
This is an urgent video I put together in a few hours! Please watch the video and ensure you disable WeChat app update prior to 9/20, if you live in the US.
If WeChat ban is official, you CAN still use the app as long as you:
1. Do NOT upgrade to any new versions released for WeChat
2. Assume you’ve downloaded the WeChat app before it’s removed from the iOS and Android app stores in the US on 9/20/2020
Make sure to turn off app automatic updates – not just refresh.
Turn on or turn off automatic updates
On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings — [your name] — iTunes & App Store. Then turn on or turn off App Updates.
On your Mac, open the App Store. From the menu bar at the top of the screen, choose App Store — Preferences. Select or deselect Automatic Updates.
On your Apple Watch, go to Settings — App Store. Turn on or turn off Automatic Updates. Or open the Watch app on your iPhone, scroll to App Store and tap it, then turn on or turn off Automatic Updates.
On your Apple TV HD or 4K, go to Settings — Apps. Select or deselect Automatically Update Apps.
When you turn off automatic updates, you receive notifications from the App Store each time an update for one of your apps is released.
This isn’t a typical video I release on my platform but I want to make sure we help each other out. The majority of Chinese immigrants living in the US heavily rely on WeChat as the only channel to communicate with their friends and family in mainland China. This change is going to hugely impact their lives.
